Himalayan Yak
Why in news : The Himalayan Yak has earned the food animal tag from the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI).
Significance of the move :
- It will help to fight with the falling numbers of the animal.
- It will also bring the animal’s milk and meat into mainstream.

About Himalayan Yak :
- It is a species of long-haired domesticatedcattle found throughout the Himalayan region .
- It belongs to the bovini tribe.
- It can tolerate the temperature as low as -40 degree
- They are most comfortable above 14000 feet.
- In India, they are found in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
