The Global Hunger Index 2022
Why in news : Recently, the global hunger index has been published and India has seen a slide in its rank from 101 in 2021 to 121 in 2022.
Facts about Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2022 :
- The Global Hunger Index is an annual report published by Concern Worldwide, Welthungerhlife designed to comprehensively measure and track hunger at the global, regional, and country levels.
- The aim of the GHI is to trigger action to reduce hunger around the world.
Criteria and determinants of the Global Hunger Index.
India specific findings :
- With a score of 1, India has a level of hunger that is serious.
- However, India rebutted GHI findings as false and being partial against INDIA.
- But, the findings from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) shows that the GHI rankings are true.
National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) :
- It is an all India survey conducted by The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. MOHFW designated International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) as the nodal agency, responsible for providing coordination and technical guidance for the NFHS.
