Veer Bal Divas
Why in news :
- The celebrations of first Veer Bal Divas were held on Dec 26, 2002.
- Prime Minister while participating in the celebrations praised that Indian youth are filled with self- confidence and Indian history is full of glory.
Facts about Veer Bal Diwas :
- Last January, the Prime Minister announced that December 26 would be observed as Veer Bal Divas.
- Veer Bal Diwas commemorates the martyrdom of the sons of Guru Gobind Singh, Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh.
- It is on this day on which Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji had to be martyred for the country, at the young age.
- Aurangzeb tried to change their religion but the children did not gave up on their religion.
- They did not bow his head before Aurangzeb, and became a martyr.
About Guru Gobind Singh :
Guru Gobind Singh
- Guru Gobind Singh born in 1666 as Gobind Dasor Gobind Rai.
- He was the tenth Sikh Guru, a spiritual master, warrior, poet and philosopher.
- When his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was executed by Aurangzeb, Guru Gobind Singh was formally installed as the leader of the Sikh sat the age of nine, becoming the tenth and final human Sikh Guru.
- His four biological sons died during his lifetime – two in battle, two executed by the Mughal governor Wazir Khan.
- Among his notable contributions to Sikhism are:
- Founding the Sikh warrior community called Khalsa in 1699.
- Introducing the Five Ks, the five articles of faith that Khalsa Sikhs wear at all times.
Five K’s tradition of the Khalsa are :
Kesh : uncut hair.
Kangha : a wooden comb.
Kara : an iron or steel bracelet worn on the wrist.
Kirpan : a sword or dagger.
Kacchera : short breeches. - He is also credited with the Dasam Granth whose hymns are a sacred part of Sikh prayers and Khalsa rituals.
- He is the one who finalized and enshrined the Guru Granth Sahib as Sikhism’s primary scripture and eternal Guru.
