Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAAGY)
Why in news : The Union Government is working to develop over 35000 villages with at least 50% tribal population into “model tribal villages”.
Key features of the scheme :
- The earlier scheme is known as Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub-Scheme (SCA to TSS).
- The earlier scheme is renamed as PMAAGY for implementation from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
- It aims to mitigate the gaps and to provide the basic infrastructure in villages with significant tribal population.
- It envisages to converge the funds available under different schemes in Central Scheduled Tribe Component.
- The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
- The main objective of this scheme is to achieve integrated socio-economic development of selected villages through the approach of convergence.
- The components under the scheme are as follows:
- To prepare the Village Development plan based on the needs, potential and aspirations
- To maximize the coverage of individual/family benefit schemes of the Central/State Governments
- To improve the infrastructure in vital sectors like health, education, connectivity and livelihood
- The scheme aims to mitigate the gaps in the following sectors of development. They are:
- Road connectivity
- Telecom connectivity
- Anganwadi Centres
- Health Sub-Centre
- Drinking water facility
- Drainage and solid waste management
