4500 YEAR OLD CORRIDOR IN GIZA PYRAMID
WHY IN NEWS ?
- Recently the scientists discovered a hidden nine-meter-long corridor behind the main entrance of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
- The find was made under the Scan Pyramids project in 2015.

- The Great Pyramid was built as a monumental tomb around 2560 BC, during the reign of the Pharaoh Khufu, or Cheops.
- The revealed corridor was supposedly created to redistribute the pyramid’s weight.
- Scientists detected the corridor through cosmic-ray muon radiography.
- Scientists were using modern technology including scans and endoscopes to peer inside the pyramid.
- The latest finding will help in discovery of mysteries related to pyramid.
ABOUT GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA :
- The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid and the tomb of Fourth Dynasty pharaoh Khufu.
- It stands at a height of 146 meters (479 feet), the tallest structure built by humankind until the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1889.
- The Great Pyramid was built by quarrying an estimated 2.3 million large blocks weighing 6 million tonnes in total.
- There are three known chambers inside the Great Pyramid. The lowest was cut into the bedrock, upon which the pyramid was built, but remained unfinished.
