KEY OUTCOMES OF THE VISIT
- Elevated Partnership: The existing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was upgraded to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to mark the 10th anniversary of this status.
- 13 MoUs & Agreements Signed:
- Digital Payments: An MoU between the Reserve Bank of India and the State Bank of Vietnam regarding cooperation in payment systems.
- Rare Earths: MoU between IREL (India) Ltd and Vietnam’s Institute for Technology of Radioactive and Rare Elements (ITRRE).
- Agriculture: Market access was enabled for Indian grapes and Vietnamese durian, with efforts to expedite access for pomegranates and pomelos.
- Culture: A 5-year Cultural Exchange Programme (2026-2030) was finalized.
- Others: Agreements regarding tourism, auditing, urban development, and digital technology.
- Strategic & Defense Ties: The leaders reiterated that defense and security are key pillars, focusing on maritime cooperation. Vietnam joined India’s Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI).
- Economic Goals: A new bilateral trade target of $25 billion by 2030 was set. Both sides also aimed to expedite the review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA)
