SAMARTH UDYOG BHARAT 4.0 INITIATIVE
- The SAMARTH UDYOG BHARAT 4.0 initiative is a significant government effort under the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the Indian Capital Goods Sector.
- The initiative is designed to support the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in Indian manufacturing, with a special focus on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
WHAT IS INDUSTRY 4.0?
- Industry 4.0, also known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), is a phase in the industrial revolution that focuses on digitization, automation, and connectivity.
- The German government first proposed the concept in 2011.
KEY FEATURES
- The initiative was launched as part of the Scheme for Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector.
- Under this scheme, the government has established four Smart Advanced Manufacturing and Rapid Transformation Hub (SAMARTH) Centres:
- Centre for Industry 4.0 (C4i4) Lab, Pune
- IITD-AIA Foundation for Smart Manufacturing, IIT Delhi
- I-4.0 India @ IISc, Bengaluru
- Smart Manufacturing Demo & Development Cell, CMTI, Bengaluru
- 10 Industry 4.0 Experience Centres are being set up across India through a Hub and Spoke model, starting with the Centre for Industry 4.0 (C4i4) Lab, Pune.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
- Development of Industry 4.0 Solutions:
- The C4i4 Lab, Pune developed an Industry 4.0 solutions-enabled Model Factory to showcase cutting-edge technologies.
- The CMTI, Bengaluru established a Smart Factory that integrates Industry 4.0 solutions for production.
- Use-cases and Assessment Tools:
- Over 50 use-cases of Industry 4.0 solutions were compiled by C4i4 Lab, Pune, assisting industries in implementing advanced manufacturing technologies.
- The Industry 4.0 Maturity Model (I4MM) was developed to assess the readiness of Indian manufacturing industries for adopting Industry 4.0.
- Several industry assessments have been completed under this program.
- Support for MSMEs:
- The C4i4 Lab, Pune launched a ‘Free Online Assessment Tool’ for MSMEs to assess their Industry 4.0 maturity and plan their digital transformation journey.
- The tool is aimed at helping MSMEs to understand their current capabilities and accelerate their adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies.
- Training and Capacity Building:
- The C4i4 Lab, Pune completed over 100 digital maturity assessments for auto industry companies, identifying over 500 improvement initiatives.
- More than 500 Digital Champions were trained on Industry 4.0 practices.
- CMTI, Bengaluru trained approximately 5000 professionals on Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies.
- Collaborations and Innovations:
- The IITD-AIA Foundation for Smart Manufacturing collaborated with various academic institutions to drive innovation in Industry 4.0 technologies specifically tailored for MSMEs.
SUPPORT & SERVICES PROVIDED TO INDUSTRIES
The SAMARTH Centres have played a pivotal role in facilitating the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies by offering:
- Awareness seminars/workshops: These are organized regularly to educate industries on Industry 4.0 and its impact.
- Consultancy services: The centres provide consultancy in key areas like IoT hardware, software development, and data analytics.
- Incubation support: Start-ups, particularly MSMEs, receive incubation support for adopting and scaling Industry 4.0 technologies.
IS FINANCIAL SUPPORT AVAILABLE?
It is important to note that no direct financial assistance is provided to industries or MSMEs under this initiative. The support is primarily in the form of:
- Training programs
- Consultancy
- Awareness building
- Technology assessment tools
