PM KISAN MODEL
Context:
- Recently, there has been an attempt for a “saturation drive” to take the total number of farmer-beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) to nearly about 8.75 crore from the present 8.12 crore or so.
About the scheme:
- PM Kisan is a Central Sector scheme.
- It receives 100% funding from Government of India.
- The scheme is primarily aimed at providing financial assistance to all cultivable landholding farmer families across the country.
- However the scheme is subjected to certain exclusion criteria.
- Under the PM KISAN Scheme, an amount of about Rs. 6000/- is transferred annually which is in three equal installments of Rs.2000/.
- The money is directly transferred into the Aadhaar Seeded bank accounts of the farmers.
- Definition of family for the said scheme is husband, wife and also minor children.
- It is the duty of the State Government and UT administration to identify the farmer families which are eligible for support as per scheme guidelines.
- The exclusion list of people contains:
- Includes all Institutional Land holders.
- Farmer families who belong to one or more of the following categories:.
- Present and former holders of constitutional posts
- Present and former Ministers/ State Ministers and former/present Members of LokSabha/ RajyaSabha/ State Legislative Assemblies/ State Legislative Councils,
- Present and former Mayors of Municipal Corporations, Present and former Chairpersons of District Panchayats.
- Serving or retired officers and employees of Central/ State Government Ministries /Offices/Departments
- Those who paid Income Tax in last assessment year
