Aarogya Setu app
Why in news:
- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology informed in a written response in Parliament that Contacttracing data from the COVID19 pandemic collected by the Aarogya Setu app has been deleted from government databases.
- In accordance with the provisions of the [Aarogya Setu Data Access and Knowledge Sharing Protocol, 2020], the contact tracing feature of the Aarogya Setu mobile application has been discontinued and contacttracing data collected through it has been deleted.
- According to an RTI application filed by the Internet Freedom Foundation, that policy was discontinued by June 2022.
Features of Aarogya Setu App:
- India launched Aarogya Setu mobile App for helping augment the efforts of limiting the spread of COVID19 in 2020.
- The main objective is to enable Bluetooth based contact tracing, mapping of likely hotspots and dissemination of relevant information about COVID19.
- The App is available in 12 languages and on Android, iOS and KaiOS platforms.
- The key pillars of Aarogya Setu have been transparency, privacy and security and in line with India’s policy on Open Source Software.
- The source code of Aarogya Setu has been made open source.
- It is developed by the National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
- Aarogya Setu’s development has been a remarkable example of collaboration between Government, Industry and Academia and citizens.
